Meet Hannah
I am a brand and web designer based in Wadestown, Wellington NZ, serving soul-led clients across Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond.
My love for colour, design and composition goes back many, many years to when I was at primary school, creating my first masterpiece in the style of Monet’s impressionism aged 8!
I spent many hours creating through the mediums of silk and glass paint with my grandma in her home studio nestled in the English countryside, and achieved the highest grade possible in A-Level Fine Art (NCEA Level 3) and was poised to go to Interior Design school. Or so I thought…
Fast forward 11 years and I found myself as a multi-passionate creative with a PhD in Latin American studies, having lived and researched in Ecuador, Costa Rica and Peru along the way!
Relocating to NZ in 2017, I realised I was missing something - my passion for “designing”. Since 2022, I have been combining my artistic roots and strategic, analytical mind together, growing a business that helps creatives and service providers flourish online.
The meaning
behind Volar
Why the name Volar Creative Studio?
A name rooted in my story…
Volar is a verb in Spanish meaning “to fly”.
For me, it’s more than a verb and a name - it is a symbol of personal transformation and creative freedom.
At 18, I left the comfort of the English countryside to explore Latin America, an experience that shifted my worldview and shaped my soul
High in the Ecuadorian Andes, a sword-billed colibrí (hummingbird) visited the Guanto Rojo tree outside my window daily. Not having these creatures in England, I was mesmerised by its colours, energy, and its effortless way of suspending mid-air. How magnificent I thought.
Years later, living in Costa Rica, I was surrounded by colibrí once again. These tiny beings, delicate yet powerful, became symbolic of everything I was learning about resilience, adaptability, and just being present.
Today, with a deep-rooted love of Spanish, I chose ‘Volar’ as my studio’s name because it authentically reflects my journey. It connects to where I’ve been and speaks to what I now offer: design that lifts ideas and flies higher, honours stories, and helps founders and business owners soar into the next flight of their journey.
The hummingbird in my logo is a tribute to this path - light, intention and freedom.

You may have also noticed lavender and cups of tea woven throughout my site…
These aren’t just aesthetic choices, they are tiny love notes to my grandmother.
She was the biggest tea drinker I know and loved making lavender bags to help freshen things up! (Oh - and hummingbirds like lavender too!!)
As my brand has evolved I have found myself thinking of her more and more. She was a patient and steady presence in my childhood, with us spending countless hours creating together, or just sitting quietly with a warm drink and stories to share. That sense of calm, creativity and comfort still shapes my approach today.
This studio was built to hold space. Space for your ideas to flourish, your voice to rise, and your vision to lift off…
Volar is a gentle reminder to rise, explore, and trust the process…
